Join the Cause for the 37th Milo Marathon 2013 - September 22 (CEBU)
The MILO® Marathon is the very first sports event set up by MILO® in the Philippines. It was launched in May 1974 at the height of the running boom in the 1970s. When the trend waned, the MILO® Marathon didn't stop running. Instead, it got bigger and better through the years.
Now, the MILO® Marathon has grown to become the biggest and most prestigious running event and has tremendous impact on amateur sports in the country. More importantly, it has become more than a race event. With its "Help Give Shoes" advocacy, the MILO® Marathon is now a channel for helping others.
JOIN THE CAUSE
1. Register and participate in any of the MILO® Marathon race events. A portion of your registration fee (PhP10) will go to a fund for buying running shoes.
2. In return, MILO® will contribute an amount equivalent to the total fund raised from the registration fees.
HOW BENEFICIARIES ARE SELECTED
1. The shoes will be donated to selected public schools in the areas where the previous year's MILO® Marathon has been held.
2. All qualified recipient schools for the year will be included in a raffle supervised by the Department of Education, race organizers, and Nestlé representatives.
3. During the raffle, five schools per provincial area and ten per Manila race will be picked. Each school will receive 100 pairs of rubber shoes.
4. The school principal, guidance counselor, PE teacher, and MILO® coordinator will work together in selecting student beneficiaries based on the following criteria:
A. Aged 7 to 11 years for elementary students, 13 to 15 years for high school.
B. Should be bona fide students of the school.
C. Should be current athletes of the school or have the potential to excel in sports.
D. PE teacher/sports coordinator to monitor and assess student's development in academics, sports, and character.
